I am a strength enthusiast who fell in love with lifting while in the system. From 18 to 24 the iron kept me focused, out of trouble, and marching on a path that I would stay on for the rest of my life. A journey that would be filled with goals, learning to deal with failure, strategize, and of course the satisfaction of goal attainment.
Around age 26 I discovered Powerlifting through the coaches at Beat Personal Training, doing my first competition in 2013 where I squatted 365, benched 425 and deadlifted 430lbs. Humble beginnings, considering at that point I had already been working out (not training) about 7-8 years.
Nonetheless, I loved the experience and through participation in this sport I have not only grown my numbers but have learned a lot of things along the way, including:
Dedicating myself to a process and seeing it through,
Evaluating the process
Coping with failure
Dealing with pressure, deadlines. Expectations. Standards. And accepting you aren’t always #1 or #10 !!
